If you think Bali is for backpackers, then you are highly mistaken here!
Ever since the advent of the Kardashians and the Beckhams to Bali, the holiday destination has taken a 360-degree turn. Now, Bali is not just about beaches and bikinis!
I found a whole new world of luxury dining on my recent visit to the water nation. Yes, you can now dine like a celebrity in Bali.
It’s a whole new vibe!
Visiting Bali and being a food enthusiast, I’ve sampled many high-end restaurants and tasting menus across the island. In this article, I have showcased my top favorites based on my own visits to most of these upscale dining spots in Bali!
Is Celebrity Dining Worth it in Bali?
Fine dining or, as I would like to put it, celebrity dining in Bali is surprisingly affordable. Especially when I compare it to similar restaurants I have tried in the United States or Europe.
I suggest that even if you are on a smaller budget, you consider giving celebrity dining a try here. Bali is, any day, the most affordable place to experience a chef’s tasting menu, and the restaurant serves multiple courses.
As per my research into Bali’s gastronomy, Ubud, Canggu, Seminyak, and Uluwatu have the highest concentration of celebrity
dining restaurants.
These areas are where you’ll find the best restaurants catering to high-end tourists. While many of these restaurants are located within luxury hotels, all the ones listed below are open to visitors who aren’t staying overnight.
If you’re planning a celebrity dining experience for your Bali honeymoon, be sure to book a table well in advance. These restaurants are very popular and tend to fill up quickly!
Best Celebrity Dining Restaurants in Bali
You’ll be surprised by Bali’s upscale dining options!
Even though Michelin doesn’t have a guide for Indonesia (joke: they just sell tires here), Bali boasts several restaurants that could easily compete internationally.
Visiting Bali and being a food enthusiast, I’ve sampled many high-end restaurants and tasting menus across the island. In this article, I have showcased my top favourites based on my own visits to most of these upscale dining spots in Bali!
1. Apéritif Restaurant
One standout restaurant is Apéritif Restaurant. It’s quite upscale and offers a blend of modern and Indonesian cuisine. When I visited, it felt like stepping into somewhere truly unique. The restaurant has various seating areas, and they offer special menus to sample a variety of haute cuisine dishes.
I tried the Avant Garde degustation with wine pairing, and I have to say, everything was exceptional—I’d give it 5/5 stars. Hats off to the chef and their team for going above and beyond to make our dining experience unforgettable.
The service staff were amazing, explaining each dish in detail, just like the sommelier did with the wine pairings. The chef is truly a star, and I loved how each dish took us on a journey.
Occasionally, they collaborate with renowned chefs to create extraordinary meals. I’ve also heard they’re very environmentally conscious, sourcing vegetables from their own garden.
Don’t forget to visit the New Pinstripe bar—the cocktails are amazing, and once again, the service is top-notch.
1. Sangsaka
Sangsaka is located in Seminyak. It is a modern Indonesian restaurant that offers one of the best celebrity dining experiences I’ve had in Bali. Don’t be misled by their website—it doesn’t list the tasting menu, but rest assured, it does exist! When we visited, we enjoyed the 7-course menu, but recent online reviews suggest it’s now expanded to 8 courses.
What sets Sangsaka apart is its intimate ambiance (it’s a small restaurant), personalized service, and unique Indonesian-inspired dishes with a modern twist.
My favorites were the tuna with avocado and the dragonfruit dessert with elderflower. During my visit, most of the guests were couples, which isn’t surprising given the cozy and romantic atmosphere. Although it’s a bit off the beaten path from the main tourist area, I recommend taking a 5-10-minute taxi ride from the beach in Seminyak to get there.
1. Le Petit Chef
You’ll find Le Petit Chef at the luxury five-star TS Suites hotel in Seminyak. Here, a tiny chef springs to life right on your dining table, orchestrating a dazzling show complete with themed music, props, and a delectable menu. This enchanting spectacle is made possible through the magic of visual mapping, with a 3D projection creating an unforgettable experience for guests.
Le Petit Chef, hailing from Marseille, France, maybe just 6 cm tall, but his culinary expertise shines brightly on the dinner plates. Guests can select from three different menus, and for the 6 pm showing, there’s even a kid-friendly option available. To make special occasions even more memorable, Le Petit Chef offers Pralines and Bouquets as delightful additions to the experience.
1. St Tropez
I literally manifested the French Riviera at St Tropez, a Mediterranean-inspired dining oasis with oceanfront views. Nestled by Berawa Beach within the renowned FINNS Beach Club, St Tropez invites you to indulge in a delightful al fresco lunch overlooking the sea.
I advise you to stay until sunset and immerse yourself in a vibrant social atmosphere while sipping on exquisite cocktails.
You can start your culinary journey with a plate of fresh oysters and an array of shareable starters, including garlic snails, flamed burrata, and beef tartare. Then, move over to hearty mains like mussels mariniere and roasted pork belly, or indulge in a lavish seafood platter. You can end your meal with the decadent saffron crème brûlée for the perfect sweet ending.
1. Mozaic Gastronomic Restaurant
Mozaic is a must-visit on any list of Bali’s top celebrity dining. With over 20 years of culinary excellence, it has garnered numerous awards under the guidance of Chef Blake Thornley and Chef Chris Salans. These culinary maestros blend the rich flavors of Bali with the precision of modern French cuisine.
At Mozaic, guests can indulge in two exquisite degustation menus, one of which is entirely vegetarian. The dishes are masterfully crafted and served in the elegant dining room. For a more immersive experience, I tried The Tasting Room, complete with a walk-in wine room and mixology concept, or opt for The Chef’s Table for a live and interactive cooking experience.
As if that wasn’t impressive enough, Mozaic stands as the sole Indonesian restaurant to be a member of Les Grandes Tables du Monde, an elite association reserved for Michelin-starred establishments.
